Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy
Kim Hyung-Joon

Abstract
Advances in laparoscopy have made laparoscopic partial nephrectomy a technically feasible procedure. However, time-consuming techniques such as tumor excision, hemostasis, and suturing techniques are still obstacles for even experienced laparscopists. This paper reviews our technique and outcome of our first experience on robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RALPN). Our patient was a 68-year-old woman presenting with incidentally found 2.3x2.2cm sized exophyting mass on the lateral aspect of left kidney. The total operative time was 190 minutes. Excision of tumor, hemostasis and suturing using robot took 20minutes. The estimated blood loss was less than 50ml. The pathological examination showed conventional type renal cell carcinoma with Fuhrman nuclear grade 2 and negative surgical margins. This approach may have potential advantages over conventional laparosopy and open surgery due to its minimal invasivenessarmed with easier excision and suturing.
